The Johns Hopkins Hospital – Bloomberg Children’s Center: Pediatric ICU (PICU)

 

Level 1 - Designated Burn, Trauma, and Eye center for State of Maryland

 

Unit description: Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit; Newborn to 21

 

Schedule: Full-time 13 week contract

Payrate: $60/hr

Responsibilities

 
  • Provide specialized nursing care for patients with complex medical conditions, including respiratory failure, metabolic disorders, seizure disorders, multi-organ failure, shock, toxic ingestions, ECMO therapy, and ventricular assist devices (VADs).
  • Care for patients recovering from or undergoing a wide range of surgical procedures, including general, cardiac, thoracic, transplant, orthopedic, and neurologic surgeries.
  • Administer and monitor continuous infusions and intermittent medications, including narcotics, vasopressors, diuretics, parenteral nutrition/lipids (PN/IL), IV push (IVP) medications, patient-controlled analgesia (PCA), oral medications, and enteral medications via gastric/jejunal tubes (GT/JT).
  • Assess, monitor, and respond to changes in patient condition using critical thinking and evidence-based nursing practices.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to develop and implement individualized patient care plans.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in accordance with hospital policies and regulatory standards.
  • Deliver high-acuity patient care in a critical care environment with patient-to-nurse ratios of 1:1 or 2:1, depending on patient acuity and clinical needs.

 

Qualifications

Required:    

  • 2 years of recent PICU experience; including at least 1 travel assignment
  • Current registered nurse license in the state of Maryland, or licensed in a compact state
  • Current CPR certification; BLS, PALS, ACLS                               

Preferred:

  • Critical Care Certification 
  • Trauma Course
  • EPIC  Experience
