Pay rate: $24 per hour

 

Schedule Options:

  • Day Shift: 3 days/week, 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM (every other weekend)
  • Night Shift: 3 days/week, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM (every other weekend)

Responsibilities

The Nursing Unit Secretary performs clerical duties that support the daily operations of the nursing unit. This role contributes to efficient patient care by managing communication, records, and administrative tasks. Timeframes and duties may be adjusted based on unit needs and specialty areas. 

  • Greet and assist patients, visitors, and staff at the nursing unit.
  • Answer phones, relay messages, and update patient activity and census boards.
  • Maintain and organize medical records, charts, and admission paperwork.
  • Transcribe physician orders accurately and notify nursing staff.
  • Schedule appointments and coordinate with departments (e.g., Respiratory, Dietary).
  • Arrange patient transportation and manage belongings during stays and discharges.
  • Keep the unit stocked, organized, and safe; report issues and follow up on repairs.
  • Handle clerical duties including mail, Xeroxing, daily logs, and supply orders.
  • Follow hospital policies and attend required meetings and trainings.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook); ability to learn EPIC
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Basic analytical skills to interpret routine information and resolve standard issues.
  • Demonstrates respectful and professional interaction with patients and visitors
