Location: 1800 Orleans Street, Baltimore, MD

Hours: 7a-3:30p and 3p-11:30p 

Pay Range: $33-$41 per hour

Responsibilities

Perform maintenance, installation and repair work on refrigeration systems, equipment and components. This work is performed under general supervision and using the tools and techniques of refrigeration technology.

 

  • Read and interprets schematic and construction drawings, service manuals and other technical documents.
  • Follow instructions provided by blueprints, drawings, written materials, work orders and oral instruction.
  • Communicate (written and oral) with supervisor and departmental/JHM staff.
  • Assimilate JHH/departmental mission, policies and procedures as well as specific job safety aspects.
  • Apply refrigeration and safety knowledge indicated herein.
  • Safely uses tools and equipment indicated herein.
  • Perform work within reasonable lengths of time as measured against trade, industry or engineered standards.

 

Working Conditions: 

  • Work in shop and mechanical area environments with exposure to dust, heat, cold, noise and fumes.
  • Work may be performed outdoors with exposure to extreme temperatures and other weather conditions.
  • Get into/work within confined spaces and in awkward positions.
  • Work at heights of up to 30 feet above surface using ladders, lifts and equipment.
  • Work requires ability to stand, walk or sit for extended periods of time.
  • Work requires ability to load/unload and transport/position tools, equipment and materials & push/pull loaded hand trucks weighing up to 75 pounds. 
  • Work with systems which involve risk of exposure to disease.
  • Possible exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous materials, and pharmacological agents has little likelihood of harm when established health precautions are followed.
  • Work requires the use of protective safety devices including, but not limited to, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, infection prevention apparel/apparatus, back belt.
  • Work requires attention to detail, visual acuity and manual dexterity

 

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • HVAC Journeyman License from a state approved apprenticeship program
  • CFC Certification Required.
  • 4 years related work experience as obtained through the completion of an apprenticeship program. 
  • Knowledge of refrigeration theory, techniques, codes, procedures and materials.
  • Knowledge of safety rules, procedures and practices, including the proper use of safety equipment as defined by OSHA and industry standards.
  • Ability to use all types of tools and equipment normally used in the refrigeration trade including specialized equipment such as refrigerant recovery systems, powered portable, bench and hand tools (such as drills, grinders, compressed air), as well as non-powered hand tools.
  • Ability to solve problems and manage information indicated herein.
  • Proficient written and verbal English communication skills, at least on an high school graduate level, to interact with departmental/JHM staff.
  • Identify and avoid hazards as indicated by warning labels, signage, lights and other warning devices.
