Position Summary: Provides medically prescribed occupational therapy services to inpatients and/or outpatients to restore function, and assist the patient in reaching his/her maximum capabilities to assume a place in society while learning to live within the limits of their disability.

 

Location:

  • Johns Hopkins Howard County Medical Center in  Columbia, MD.

 

Schedule:

  • Day Shift 8am - 4:30pm Monday - Friday 

 

Pay Range: $50 - $55

Responsibilities

  • Provides evaluation, program planning and treatment of patients referred to Occupational Therapy in an efficient and effective manner. 
  • Requires analytical skills to collect information from diverse sources, apply professional principles in performing various analysis, and summarize the information and data in order to solve problems or design relatively complex systems and programs that cross department/divisional lines.
  • Work requires the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and provide empathy in difficult interpersonal situations.
  • Documents the initial occupational therapy assessment, goals, plan of care, observations, progress toward goals and discharge summary in the patient’s medical record.
  • Plans and conducts individual and group occupational therapy sessions based on departmental protocols. Physicians’ prescriptions and the occupational therapy assessment; which are designed to assist the patient to overcome or minimize physical or mental illnesses and to allow each person to perform at his maximum level of independence. These may include and are not limited to: physical exercises, coordination activities, heat, ADL training, splint, fabrication, join protection and energy conservation, stress management, relaxation techniques, task groups, cooking and basic life skills and community outings. Requires the ability to supervise several tasks simultaneously and the stress associated with working in a psychiatric and/or acute care rehabilitation environment.
  • Plans, coordinates and collaborates with other disciplines for treatment and discharge needs of individual patients referred to Occupational Therapy. Attends and verbally participates in scheduled interdisciplinary team meetings.
  • Instructs and demonstrates to patients and family members, exercises and treatments to be performed at home. Provides written handouts when appropriate, as well as, physically demonstration of exercises and treatments.
  • Completes requisitions or notifies appropriate person to obtain necessary supplies and equipment for the department and ensures that they are available within the Occupational Therapy Department. Ensures that all departmental equipment is in proper working order.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of annual goals, quality assurance plan and budget for the Occupational Therapy department.
  • Reviews Occupational Therapy and pertinent hospital policies and procedures on an annual basis.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree with a major in Occupational Therapy in required
  • Minimum of one-year clinical experience as an Occupational Therapist is required
  • Must have passed or be eligible to take the American Occupational Therapy Certification Examination
  • Current Maryland state license is required
  • CPR Certification is required
