Responsibilities

  • Observes and monitors patient activities and condition
  • Identifies changes in patient condition and notifies nurse in a timely manner
  • Maintains visual observation at all times
  • Verbally redirects patient over digital 2-way audio device staged in patient room
  • Immediately summons the nursing staff if and when the patient requires assistance.
  • Seeks help or advice as soon as possible when patient appears to pose a threat to themselves or others.
  • Participates in a collaborative identification and reporting or patient safety issues.
  • Assures patient environment safety
  • Seeks assistance with removal of any potential safety hazard from room and reports findings to Charge Nurse.
  • Participates in hand-off of pertinent information/behavior about assigned patients when arriving on unit and upon completion of assignment.
  • Provides patient with explanations as necessary, but does not counsel or provide opinions. Demonstrates behaviors in line with Johns Hopkins Service Excellence initiatives.
  • Sets up, delivers, and maintains specialized clinical equipment
  • Performs routine and delegated nursing procedures
  • Collects patient data and documents in the electronic health record

 

 

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/ Equivalent
  • Active American Heart Association Basic Life Support CPR
  • Active Maryland CNA License; Active District of Columbia (D.C.) License is a plus 
  • 1 year of CNA experience in an inpatient setting within the last two years.
  • Knowledge of aseptic technique, basic wound care, patient safety and patient transport techniques.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of universal precaution in the delivery of direct patient care
  • Understanding and proficiency of RPSO device and software
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skill necessary to provide the appropriate care to this patient population based on the patients’ individualized treatment plan as delegated by the Registered Nurse (RN).
  • Demonstrates safe work practices and attitudes, follows safety rules, works to prevent unsafe condition and behaviors, and participates in organizational and department safety programs.
  • Knowledge of recording and reporting pertinent clinical data in electronic health record.
  • Knowledge of setting up and management of specialized patient care equipment, including cameras and monitors.
  • Analytic ability to operate electronic monitoring equipment; determine appropriate information and resources needed related to clinical situation; organize and summarize information; make judgments regarding routine patient care activities within scope of practice.
  • Highly effective verbal communication and interpersonal skills to establish working relationships that foster optimal quality patient.
  • Demonstrates skills in performing routine patient care activities (i.e. Vital Signs, pulse, blood pressure, oximetry, height/weight, Activities of Daily Living, patient redirection).
  • Ability to document legibly using a writing instrument (primarily during system downtime).
