Johns Hopkins Hospital is seeking an experienced NICU Respiratory Care Practitioner for a temporary assignment in a Level III NICU. Must have Maryland Respiratory license and RRT. NRP Certification is required. .
Night shift 6:45pm - 7:15am; weekend shifts required (6 shifts within 6 weeks)
Under general supervision, staff that have been trained in the various units of the Bloomberg Children’s Center use the knowledge of concepts related to Respiratory Care to evaluate and recommend appropriate treatment for patients with cardiopulmonary compromise in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), or Inpatient Pediatric General Care Units. As a Pediatric Respiratory Care Practitioner, staff are trained to exclusively work in either the PICU and Pediatric General Care Units (Pediatric core staff), the NICU (NICU core staff), or are cross-trained to work in all areas of the Children’s Center (PICU, NICU and Pediatric General Care). All RCPs will demonstrate competency in setting up, operating, delivering, and discontinuing medical gas therapy, humidity therapy, inhaled medication therapy, bronchial hygiene therapy, invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation, emergency care/resuscitation, and airway management to patients with cardiopulmonary complications. Builds relationships with other members of the healthcare team and participates in the realization of each patient’s multidisciplinary plan of care. Other duties as assigned.
Responsible for rendering comprehensive assessments to patients with cardiopulmonary compromise and interpreting patient data to make evidence-based recommendations for continued care.
Education: Associates Degree in Respiratory Care required. Graduation from a Registered Respiratory Therapy Program approved by the Council For The Accreditation Of Respiratory Care Education (CoARC). Bachelor’s degree in Respiratory Care or other approved bachelor’s degree preferred.
Must possess sufficient knowledge of cardiopulmonary pathophysiology and its relation to the practice of respiratory care. Must demonstrate proficiency in the application of theoretical principles to the initiation, maintenance, and discontinuation of all respiratory care modalities and related equipment as gained in a COARC approved respiratory care program. Requires the aptitude to be trained and the knowledge to apply all equipment and therapeutic modalities used in respiratory care. As a Pediatric RCP must demonstrate knowledge, skills and abilities to be trained as an Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) Specialist
Must be competent in the ability to analyze and interpret physician orders, perform therapy and communicate outcomes of treatment to the physician and health care team members. Applies respiratory care modalities to pediatric and neonatal patients consistent with JHH practice along with hospital approved techniques of infection control. Learns and develops organizational skills that allow the individual to map out and provide clinical care within their area of responsibility. In age specific populations, must be familiar with particular patient populations to which they are assigned.
Required Licensure, Certification, Etc.:
RRT required. Maryland State License Required. BLS, PALS, NRP required.
