  • Overview

    Johns Hopkins Intrastaff is the internal staffing agency for the Johns Hopkins Health System and partner hospitals, providing temporary support to a variety of the Johns Hopkins locations.

     

    The basic function of this position is to copy edit and proofread all materials produced or handled by Marketing and Communications for the School of Medicine or the Health System to help protect the reputation and integrity of the institution. Additionally, this job will have writing duties as assigned.


    Responsibilities

    • Find and correct grammatical, spelling, syntax, punctuation, factual and other errors, and tighten and polish sentence and paragraph structure.

    • Ensure consistent style and voice for a variety of copy, including newsletter and magazine stories, brochures, Web content, letters and proposals.

    • Get essential information for articles.

    • Write well-organized and informative materials as needed.

    Qualifications

     

    Education: Bachelor's degree in journalism or English, preferred.

    Knowledge: Demonstrated excellence in copy editing and proofreading all forms of written materials, including newspaper and newsletter articles, brochures, press releases, leadership leaders and Web copy. Additional experience in narrative and Web writing is preferred. Must have familiarity with medical, scientific and health care terminology and must know AP style.

    Skills: Ability to meet multiple deadlines, work well with others and function in a team approach.

    Work ExperienceMinimum five years' editorial experience at a newspaper or other high-volume publisher, or equivalent experience.
