Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, and taking into consideration the developmental needs of the patient, performs delegated duties related to the comfort and personal needs of the patients. These activities may include ADL(s), nutritional support, patient mobility, vital signs, changing beds, replenishing room supplies and assisting healthcare team with specific treatments and/or procedures.
Reads and interprets equipment readings, in conjunction with patient information.
Knowledgeable of operating parameters of patient care equipment.
Possible exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous materials, radiation and pharmacological agents.
Work requires standing and/or walking for extended periods of time.
Work requires lifting and/or positioning patients and transporting wheelchairs, beds and related equipment.
Work requires manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination to perform delegated patient care procedures.
Work may require contact with aggressive and/or combative patients.
Employees in this position will be required to adhere to work availability and unit scheduling requirements.
This may include, but is not limited to availability status, mandatory overtime, on call and shift work.
High School Diploma or equivalent and successful completion of a certified training course for Nursing Assistants, such as courses provided by the Red Cross or community colleges.
One year of recent patient care experience in a setting relevant to the unit is preferred.
Nursing Assistant certification and CPR required.
Knowledge of aseptic technique, basic wound care, patient safety and patient transport techniques.
